Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Compare with Matthew 10:6-8 “But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” These instructions were given by Jesus to the twelve disciples, with the emphasis on teaching and preaching the gospel message. Perhaps few of us today can cast out devils or cleanse the lepers, but every Christian can teach the gospel to an unsaved person.
Compare also with Luke 22:32 “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” In the hours before His death, our LORD confirmed with Peter (and the others) they would soon be spiritually converted, meaning to receive the Holy Spirit. It is only by being converted ourselves, that we have an intimate and true knowledge of God, and are therefore able to teach others accordingly.
