Preaching of the Cross

1 Corinthians 1:xx

Preaching is Foolish  to the Perishing  ~  Verses 18-19 ~
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” Two thousand years ago, as today, many of the people laughed and scorned at Jesus and His message of salvation. How about you? Do you consider Jesus to be “just a man”, a historical figure of good moral character? Are you ready to accept Him as the Messiah and Son of God? The miracle of what He accomplished at the cross is no joke, it is not a fairy tale, or the product of imagination. No. It was and remains the greatest gift God could have given to us; forgiveness of sin through the shed blood of His Son.

Wisdom of God  ~ Verses 20-21 ~
“Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world?: hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”  Human nature is to consider ourselves wise beyond measure, everything we do is right, and to take offense at being called foolish. God’s word, however, states that He alone is wise, and only a fool rejects Him. See Proverbs 1:7, Psalm 14:1.

Stumbling blocks and Foolishness  ~ Verses 22-23 ~
“For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But  we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;” Do you consider the claim of Jesus Christ to be the Son of God, as outrageous? Is your pride and stubbornness a stumbling block? Will you allow your unbelief and pride to condemn you to the lake of fire? Please, consider carefully, as God will not accept “I didn’t know” as an excuse. God created every human being with a natural, indwelling knowledge of Himself, but will you listen?

Foolishness of God and Men  ~ Verses 24-25 ~
“But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” God is strong, but we are weak. He is eternal, we are temporal. If you are willing to  considered a fool by the world, you can be considered wise by God, and receive eternal life through His Son. Not a bad arrangement, eh?
